Grimaldi’s Coal Brick Oven Pizzeria

Wendy and I (Janice) recently had the pleasure of dining at Grimaldi’s Pizzeria.  We visited the San Tan Mall location and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The food was excellent, the environment was classy yet upbeat, and the staff was helpful and made us feel welcome. Grimaldi’s is perfect for a family dinner or a girls’ night out.

Grimaldi’s specializes in brick-oven fired pizza, but they also serve calzones and have some tasty desserts. One feature I really appreciated was being able to see the kitchen. When dining at Grimaldi’s you can see the pizza being prepared. The work area is clean, central, and bustling.

We started off with the small house salad which contained romaine lettuce, red onions, cherry tomatoes, oven roasted sweet red peppers, mushrooms, green olives, and vinaigrette dressing. The small is perfect for two to three people.

We ordered two personal sized (12 inch) pizzas. Twelve inches sounds like too much for one person, but since it is a thin crust pizza, it is actually perfect. Wendy ordered sliced tomatoes and fresh garlic and I ordered mushrooms with fresh garlic. Both pizzas were delicious, but Wendy’s was better. The manager, Becky, told us we had to try the white pizza, and I plan to next time.

We finished our dining experience with some cheesecake. Grimaldi’s makes their own cheesecake and it is sinfully good. I ordered the strawberry cheesecake and Wendy opted for the blueberry cobbler cheesecake.

The only negative comment that can be made is that Grimaldi’s gets pretty busy, which can mean a long wait. If you plan to go with children, you may want to visit during non-peak hours. We would recommend Grimaldi’s Pizzeria to anyone looking for a rewarding dining experience.
