Guardians of the Galaxy Review

Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” finds space adventurer Peter Quill the object of a bounty hunt after stealing an orb coveted by a treacherous villain, but when Quill discovers the power it holds, he must find a way to rally the quartet of ragtag rivals hot on his trail to save the universe.

I knew my kids were dying to see the movie, but I thought it looked kind of silly with people, other life forms, and a talking raccoon.  I decided I needed to see the film first before letting my kids see it, so Hubbyman and I went.  Going in, I knew nothing about the comic book, so I cannot talk about how closely it follows that storyline.

After the seeing the film, I’m super excited to go back and see it a second time with the kids.  It was full of great special effects, the storyline was easy enough for a non-fan to follow, the fight scenes were good, and I love anything with great 80’s music.  The cheesy humor was fun to laugh at…there was just enough that it didn’t get annoying.

And honestly, I will watch pretty much anything with Vin Diesel…granted he is just the voice of Groot…but still…{swoon}!

So…will I take the kids!  You betchya!  I have a 5yo and almost 10yo and they are going to love this movie.  If your kids have seen any of the other Marvel superhero movies, then they should be pretty safe with this one.  (Of course, you need to make your own decisions about your family or go see it first.)  There are fighting scenes, a little implied chemistry with the two main characters, and some “fun” phrases that the kids might pick up…but like I mentioned, if they’ve seen the other Marvel superhero movies then it shouldn’t be too intense for them.

Guardians of the Galaxy is rated PG-13 and is in theaters beginning 8/1/14!
