Hilton Tucson El Conquistador Summer Fun

Hilton Tucson El Conquistador is offering guests a fun and educational summer getaway with the “Edutainment” event series. Held throughout the summer weekends – June 9 thought September 3, 2012 – these exciting and enlightening activities will create lasting memories for the whole family. “Edutainment” offerings include Native American story telling, desert discovery tours, visits from desert animals, stargazing, science experiments and more.

“We wanted to create a truly memorable and engaging experience for our summer guests,” said Lynn Ericksen, general manager, Hilton Tucson El Conquistador. “The edutainment events offered at our resort are a great way for families to reconnect and make new discoveries.”

The edutainment events kick off every Saturday during the summer at 5 p.m. with hands-on science experiments from Mad Science that are as fun and engaging as they are educational. Saturday evenings continue with Native American story telling at 6 p.m. when Mary Redhouse, a proud member of the Navajo Nation, plays the Native American Flute and creates sound paintings that reflect the region’s rich cultural roots.  Wearing authentic Navajo dress, Mary plays hauntingly beautiful melodies that sound like echoes on canyon walls. Guests will listen as Mary tells stories of the traditional First People legends—Creation, The Dream Catcher, the Great Spirit in all Things, Kokopelli, and Animal Tales.  Saturday evenings wrap up with stargazing with Astronomer Ben at 8 p.m. who guides guests through the Arizona summer night sky using a high-powered telescope.

The unforgettable experiences continue on Sunday mornings with Desert Discovery Tours starting at 7:30 a.m. Families explore the Sonoran Desert right outside their hotel room door with trained docents from nearby Tohono Chul Park. On this easy Sunday morning walk guests will learn the life stories of some of the many plants and animals that thrive in this otherwise inhospitable environment.  At 9 a.m. each Sunday during the summer, the Desert Ark Van “docks” at Hilton Tucson El Conquistador and introduces guests to some of the most exciting Sonoran Desert residents like barn owls, kangaroo rats, chuckwallas and friendly snakes.

In additional to the featured edutainment events, Hilton Tucson El Conquistador will continue its annual summer offerings including live entertainment, pool games, dive-in movies and much more. Parents will also be able to unwind at the restful and rejuvenating Acacia – an adult exclusive retreat featuring secluded casitas, a private sparkling pool and upgraded amenities. Or delight in some exciting activities designed just for them such as morning yoga, cooking demonstrations, tequila tasting and Happy Hour at the resort’s new restaurant, Epazote Kitchen & Cocktails.

Right now, families can take advantage of this “edutainment” getaway for as little as $99 a night and enjoy the fourth night free when they book by July 15. Some restrictions may apply.
