Find out the three things you need to know before going to see Into the Woods! Make sure to read out Into the Woods Movie Review before heading out today.
A couple weeks ago my daughter and I attended the media premiere of “Into The Woods.” I really had no idea what to expect or what the movie was about except for a few commercials I had seen. I knew it was about several fairy tales all woven together, but that was about it. Three things you need to know before you go:
1. It’s a musical! I had no idea…it’s based off a Broadway play.
2. The story lines are very, very loosely based on the stories you know. There are elements that keep the story line the way you know it, but there are lots of changes too.
3. Johnny Depp has a very small part. This made both my daughter and I sad because we are huge fans, but we got over it quickly!
Once I was able to wrap my head around these things that I was not expecting, I really enjoyed the movie. My 10 year old daughter also enjoyed it, but she did think it was a bit too long {good thing we bought the large popcorn and drink}.
SYNOPSIS
“Into the Woods” is a modern twist on several of the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales, intertwining the plots of a few choice stories and exploring the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests. This humorous and heartfelt musical follows the classic tales of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel —all tied together by an original story involving a baker and his wife, their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the witch who has put a curse on them.
Rob Marshall, the acclaimed filmmaker behind the Academy Award®-winning musical “Chicago” and Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” directs the film, which is based on the Tony®-winning original musical by James Lapine, who also penned the screenplay, and legendary composer Stephen Sondheim, who provides the music and lyrics. Produced by Marshall, John DeLuca, “Wicked” producer Marc Platt and Callum McDougall, “Into the Woods” opens TODAY.
