I love doing holiday activities with my kids. Valentine’s Day is great because they can do things like make cards or valentine cookies with a little assistance. They feel special because they are able to make someone happy. A small gesture can go a long way, especially from a child. As a busy mom, I am always looking for quick and easy recipes and crafts. My mom and I started doing this with the kids several years ago. The kids love going to Me-maw’s house and bringing home a bag of cookies to share that they “made all by themselves.” I hesitate to even call this a recipe because it is so easy, but here goes! You could use any dough or sprinkles- make a dough that can be refrigerated, or buy the pre-made, either works! We do this for pretty much every holiday, just change the dough and color of your sprinkles.
See how easy it is? These valentine cookies are cute and kids love them. Enlist your kids to help with each step. Making cookies together is a fun way to show children simple kitchen skills like washing hands, being careful around tools, scooping or rolling out dough. Even small children can “help” roll the dough in sprinkles. Just make sure they are not ingesting the dough if it contains uncooked eggs.
