Visit Yuma & Yuma Lettuce Days

Last year, I was asked to attend the Yuma Lettuce Days event in Yuma, AZ.  I actually had no idea that there was so much produce grown right in our own backyard.  But let me tell you…it was awesome to see the variety of crops being grown here in Arizona.

Yuma Lettuce Days

Yuma Lettuce Days is held every spring to celebrate the agriculture community in the area.  There are vendors, restaurant sampling, celebrity chefs (Chef Ben Ford in 2013, Chef CJ Jacobson from Top Chef in 2014), farm tours, cooking demos, entertainment and so much more.

It was so much fun to spend the weekend in Yuma…yes Yuma.  I had no idea of all the fabulous restaurants, parks, and history in the area.  It’s more than just a pit stop for Phoenicians on their way to San Diego.  I had the most amazing Italian dinner (it was even gluten free) and did wine tasting of local wines at Yuma’s Main Squeeze and they were delicious.

There is so much to do in Yuma and the have one of the coolest parks that I’ve ever seen.  Seriously, the play structure is amazing and I even ran through it.  I can’t wait to take my kids in it.  It’s located near the festival, so when the kids are done eating veggies you can head over to West Wetlands Park. For more great info and events check out the Yuma Visitors Guide.

And since you are spending the weekend in Yuma, make sure to go on Date Farm Tour.  Not only is Yuma a huge produce supplier, they are a huge producer of dates.  Yep…those tasty fruits that are delicious, especially when stuffed with cream cheese, wrapped in bacon, and dripping with maple syrup…just saying.  {Now, that you are drooling, check out my Bacon Wrapped Dates recipe}

  1. That playground is amazing! I wish I wasn’t busy that weekend. Maybe next year!

  2. I’m bummed I missed this! It looks like fun and we just watched a Dirty Jobs episode where they were working with dates- it would be interesting to see it in person.

  3. I recently did a post about a restaurant in Yuma, people do not realize all the hidden treasures there! A small burger joint right by my house just started selling Date Shakes, which I would previously only get a few times a year when heading to San Diego! They are toooooo addicting! In a good way. 😉 Thanks for sharing, we have never been to the park.

  4. Wow, what an awesome park! I almost took a job in Yuma!
