Hotel del Coronado

My family and I recently took a week long vacation to San Diego, Ca.   San Diego is a popular destination for us here in the Valley since it’s only a 6 hour drive from Phoenix.  Since we go so often, I wanted to try some new things and stay at some different hotels.  I contacted a couple places to let me do a review and share with everyone…we ended up with a great vacation, dining on some fabulous food, and staying at a couple beautiful hotels.  I hope you will stick around all week to hear all about our trip.

I have always wanted to stay at Hotel del Coronado.  It is more beautiful in person than in the pictures or on tv.  We could have spent an entire week here and never left.  There was so much to do, but we had a lot on our agenda so we just did a few things.  The kids enjoyed spending several hours playing in the tidal pools that were down on the beach.  The hotel offers private bon fires each night with s’more fixin’s too.

Hotel del Coronado was voted as the #1 hotel in the US by Celebrated Living Magazine.  Several presidents have stayed at the hotel and the movie Some Like It Hot was filmed there as well.  If you have time, you have to check out the spa, the shops downstairs (including a tasty ice cream store), and all the wonderful dining.  Every morning we woke up to a pod of dolphins playing in the ocean in front of our room.

The room was beautifully decorated.  Even though the hotel is over 100 years old, it doesn’t feel that way; everything is kept up nicely.

The highlight of our stay was the famous Sunday Brunch.  I’ve never seen anything like it in my life.  There was so much food that I had to walk around it twice just to decide what I wanted to eat.  It is continuously voted as San Diego’s best brunch location and is available every Sunday from 9:30-1pm.  You have to make your reservations in advance, but it is so worth it.  Even if you don’t stay at the hotel, you can come enjoy the brunch and it is definitely worth the trip.

Anything you could possible want to eat was being served.  From caprese salad to sushi to omelets to crab legs.  Everything was delicious, beautiful, and amazing.  There was a carving station, omelets made to order, hot waffles and pancakes made fresh, dozens of beautiful fresh salads, hot dishes like lamb oso bucco, lobster ravioli, cheese and meat station, and so much more.  Kaylynn, my 7 yo, was in heaven.  She was so excited to have crab legs and clam chowder at 10am in the morning.  It made her day.

Have I mentioned the dessert spread yet?  Every possible dessert you could possibly want was there.  I think the dessert area was larger than my living room….I’m not joking…it was massive.  I could have spent all day sampling the desserts.  There was chocolate, cake, pie, cookies, candies, cheesecakes, mousse, cupcakes, and a huge chocolate fountain.  My favorite dessert was the Godiva white chocolate mousse.  It was the best thing I ate all week on vacation.  The other really cool thing was that there was several once source chocolates to try.  I’ve never had a single source chocolate and surprised to find out that they really do taste completely different.

Find Hotel del Coronado online, facebook, and on  twitter.  Don’t forget to make your reservations for Sunday Brunch in advance too, you don’t want to miss it!  I promise you won’t be disappointed.
