El Metate Mexican Food

I don’t know about you, but Mexican food is my absolute favorite. I am sure it has something to do with being a native Arizonan. I am going to let you in on one of my favorite family owned Mexican Food restaurant in Mesa, called El Metate. Located at Recker and Main, it is pretty far from where I live in Phoenix, but anytime we are in the East Valley we make the trip over to El Metate.

I have been a loyal customer for about 8 years and my husband for much longer than that. El Metate is family owned and operated. Over the years we have seen the kids grow up and take their turn working the register. The owners know our names, ask about our kids, and remember our order.

It is a restaurant after all, so I guess I will talk about the food. El Metate serves traditional Mexican food, including menudo on the weekends, at very reasonable prices. The prices range from about $2 – $8 depending on what you are getting. They do have a dining area if you would like to stay and eat, or a convenient drive-thru if you are on the go.

The El Metate Menu

Here are some of our favorite things to order:

  • Bean Burrito – Simple, but delicious. My husband is a connoisseur of refried beans and El Metate’s are his favorite.
  • Rolled Tacos or taquitos
  • Tortas – the sandwiches are big and delicious. They are served with hot and crispy french fries.
  • The Green Combo – I almost always order the #17 green combo. It includes green chile, rice, beans, pico de gallo, and a big flour tortilla to scoop up all the goodness.
  • On the occasion we are close by during breakfast, we love the breakfast burritos too! Make sure to add potato to your burrito, if it doesn’t come that way already.

Now that you are hungry here is all the information you need to go get yourself some El Metate.
