Captain Marvel is the newest movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and is the origin story of Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the most powerful heroes. Keep reading for my spoiler free review!
I’m not a fan of comic books, but I am hooked on the Marvel movies. So I try to go into to the movies with no preconceived notions of the characters or story lines, but I was excited to see Marvel add a strong female lead superhero to the mix. DC has Wonder Woman and that movie was fantastic to have a powerful woman as the lead and I was hopeful this would be the same for Captain Marvel.
Captain Marvel opens with Carol training on the planet Kree after some sort of traumatic event that she can’t recall. She ends up on mission that leads her to Earth where she starts piecing together her past. Along the way, we see some old friends, meet new friends, and even find out how Nick Fury lost his eye (you’ll love that story).
Like most of the Marvel origin stories, there isn’t anything that moves the Marvel story forward but it is full of backstories and fills in some gaps.
Captain Marvel sort of has a Star Wars meets Guardians of the Galaxy feel. There is a good portion of the movie set in space or on other planets which gives it the Star Wars-like feel. And the humor is similar to that of GOTG. There are a just a few curse words (but no f* words). There is fighting in the movie, but seems not as intense or as violent as the other Marvel movies.
Oh…and…if you grew up in the 90’s…you’re gonna love the soundtrack!
Are there scenes during or after the credits?
Of course! There are two. One mid-credits that continues the Marvel storyline and a funny one at the end of the credits.
