Deepwater Horizon

“Based on the true events that occurred on an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico on April 20, 2010, the story chronicles the courage of those who worked on the Deepwater Horizon and the extreme moments of bravery and survival in the face of what would become one of the biggest man-made disasters in world history.”

While I didn’t understand a lot of the details (not surprising because I don’t work on an oil rig), it was still an amazing movie.  It dives into what led to the worst oil rig disaster in US history.  I did however learn there was a lot more to the story.

The first part of the movie was the back story of the rig, the characters, and the problems.  The entire second half was about the disaster that happened.  Let me just say that intense was an understatement. My 12 year old, who is not easily scared had her hands over her ears and her head in my shoulder.  I must admit, there were times that I had to look away.  We came out of the movie with our hearts pounding, tears in our eyes, and a little shaken up.

The movie is definitely not one for the kids (even though my 7yo watches PG-13 movies all the time), I will not be taking him to see this one.  There is one adult scene at the beginning of the movie, but it wasn’t graphic (mostly talk and kissing), but just enough for my 12yo to be embarrassed.

See it in IMAX if you can!!! I can’t encourage this more…it was amazing and intense on the IMAX screen.  I can’t imagine seeing it anywhere else.
