The newest adaptation of Little Women hits theaters this Christmas. Keep reading to see why it’s not for little kids, despite the PG rating.
Little Women is the classic story of 4 sisters based on the book by Louisa May Alcott:
Following the lives of four sisters, Amy, Jo, Beth and Meg, as they come of age in America in the aftermath of the Civil War. Though all very different from each other, the March sisters stand by each other through difficult and changing times.
There really isn’t much I can say about the story as it’s pretty similar to other versions. The cast and acting are great and no many how many times I’ve seen the movie or read the book….it never gets old and I cry. It’s truly heartbreaking in some places.
What was hard was how the movie was shot. It jumps back and forth in the timeline of the sisters (which is a great way to tell the story actually); however, it was really confusing. The same actors are used for younger sisters and adult sisters and there wasn’t enough costuming/makeup to really tell if you are watching them as kids/teens or as adults.
The story is appropriate for teens and probably younger; however, the movie is slow. There is no action, major drama, and jumps around a lot so it likely will not hold younger kids attention. My 15yo daughter loved it, but I won’t be taking my 10yo son.
When you go…bring a big ol’ pile of tissues. You’ll need them, even if you’ve seen every Little Women movie and read the book.
Little Women opens nationwide Wednesday (12/25/19).
