With cooler weather approaching and no Cubs Spring Training games to interfere, Riverview Park in Mesa is a great option for kids’ birthday parties. The city park adjacent to the new Cubs’ Spring Training facility and stadium is beautiful, kid-friendly for a wide range of ages, and provides a laid back spot to host a party.
The brand new park boasts an urban fishing lake, a whimsical splash pad with multiple water features, miles of accessible sidewalks, a fountain, open play areas, and restrooms (always important). But the real attraction is the extraordinary playground including a 50 foot tall Genesis climbing tower, a 60 foot long caterpillar mesh rope climbing structure, and two playground areas for ages 2-5 and 6-12+. This thoughtful set up means there is something for everyone, making it a great spot for parties with kids of multiple ages. It also makes it simple to keep younger kids contained in an area designed just for them and that also makes it easy to keep an eye on everyone.
There are plenty of shaded areas with picnic tables and ramadas are available for reservation when Spring Training is not in session. The rates are very reasonable and rules are flexible. Rates range from $12-30 per hour for residents and $15-34 for non-residents, depending on the size of the ramada. Ramadas range from seating 6 – 160 people. There is a two hour minimum and items like bounce houses, catering supplies, and alcohol are allowed with the appropriate permits and insurance on file with Mesa Parks and Recreation. For more information visit the City of Mesa’s website. For reservations call (480) 644-4271.
Kids’ parties can be stressful, and it’s difficult to find an inexpensive location offering something for everyone. This is a laid back option for parents and kids to get outside and enjoy some free play time. Just add some cake and streamers and let the park do the rest of the entertaining. Now that the weather is getting cooler here in the East Valley, and we can even begin to contemplate hosting an outdoor birthday party again, Mesa’s Riverview Park delivers a great venue.
