Million Dollar Arm is the story of a sports agent looking for his next big athlete. JB (Jon Hamm) is struggling with his career and needs a big break. He comes up with the plan to hold a competition in India to find a cricket bowler that he, with the help of Tom (Bill Paxton) can transform into a major league pitcher in only one year.
It’s the inspiring true story of Dinesh and Rinku as they move from their homes in India to Los Angeles to become major league players. “The boys, who have never left their rural villages, are challenged when they come to the States. As the boys learn the finer points of baseball, JB, with the help of his charming friend Brenda (Lake Bell), learns valuable life lessons about teamwork, commitment and what it means to be a family.” Of course there are set backs, but do they succeed and become drafted into the major leagues?

So, is it appropriate for kids? Absolutely!!! It’s an inspiring movie, teaching kids about following their dreams, working hard, and never giving up hope. It also allows great talking points about the Indian culture and other aspects of India. The movie is probably not great for young children though since there isn’t a lot to hold young viewers attention. There are a few adult relationship references, but they seemed to go over my 9yo daughter’s head.
Million Dollar Arm is rated PG and is in theaters beginning 5/16/14!
