Disney knocked it out of the park with Pete’s Dragon! It’s even better than the first, but keep reading for my non-spoiler warning for young kids.
I loved Pete’s Dragon and honestly, it’s the first movie that I’m dying to go back on opening day to see again. It’s reminiscent of the old Disney Sunday Night movies, but 1000 times better. And yes…you MUST see it in 3D. The forest scenes are unbelievable in 3D…so yes even this 3D hater LOVED it in 3D.
Warning, the first few minutes could be scary for younger viewers and there is a scene in the middle of the movie that can be a little scary. My Star Wars & Avengers loving 7yo was a little scared and had to process the movie with me after. I’m not saying don’t go…just that it could be scary in a few parts for little eyes.
For the moms, bring some tissue. I think I cried off and on {mostly on} for the last half of the movie. Not always because it’s sad.
Pete’s Dragon is everything you want it to be and more!
“For years, old wood carver Mr. Meacham (Robert Redford) has delighted local children with his tales of the fierce dragon that resides deep in the woods of the Pacific Northwest. To his daughter, Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard), who works as a forest ranger, these stories are little more than tall tales…until she meets Pete (Oakes Fegley). Pete is a mysterious 10-year-old with no family and no home who claims to live in the woods with a giant, green dragon named Elliot. And from Pete’s descriptions, Elliot seems remarkably similar to the dragon from Mr. Meacham’s stories. With the help of Natalie (Oona Laurence), an 11-year-old girl whose father Jack (Wes Bentley) owns the local lumber mill, Grace sets out to determine where Pete came from, where he belongs, and the truth about this dragon.”
Pete’s Dragon opens nationwide today (8/12).
