We got a glimpse of Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War, but I’m sure you’re wondering if the new Spider-Man is worth seeing? Afterall, how many different Spider-Man movies have there been and there seems to be an ever changing cast of characters.
Coming off a high of fighting alongside some of the Avengers in Captain America: Civil War, high school student Peter Parker struggles to figure out how he fits in both in high school and as a superhero. The movie includes a lot of typical high school issues like fitting in, attending school functions, high school crushes, and more. As awkward as high school is for Peter, learning to be a superhero for Spider-Man is just as hard.
As much as I loved Tobey Maguire as Peter/Spider-Man, I think Tom Holland was made for this role. He is perfect, funny, sensitive and just wants to be part of the Avengers.
Spider-Man Homecoming is rated PG-13 and has a similar level of violence and fighting as other Marvel movies; however, this one seemed a little less and maybe a tad less intense. There are few scenes to be aware of for younger kids. First a group of high school girls are talking about what they’d like to do with which Avenger. One mentions she’d like to “F” one of them. She only says “F” and not the actual word..the scene goes by really fast, maybe 30 seconds or so. The second scene involves Peter’s friend is caught using the school’s computers and when caught by a teacher, he says he’s looking at porn instead of what he’s really up to. This scene really caught my 8 year old’s attention and was curious what “porn” was based off the audience reaction. The other scene was the very end where the f-word is yelled, but cut off before it’s finished.
As always, know your kids and what they can handle. If in doubt, see it first before taking them. But make sure to stay until the very VERY end. There is more than one stinger.
Spider-Man Homecoming opens nationwide Friday (7/7/17).
