Earlier this week, I attended a secret press screening of the newest episode in the Star Wars franchise…Star Wars: The Force Awakens. I’ve always love the Star Wars movies, though I’m not a super fan I just love the story and the movies and have fond memories of going with my dad to see the first movies in the theater in the 70’s & 80’s.  And now I’m so thrilled to carry on the tradition and take my children to see the movies. If you haven’t yet, I’d highly encourage you to watch (or rewatch) the movies in chronological order with the kids to keep everyone up on the overall story line.

Here’s my super simple version of the story line for the new movie… Finn and Rey, two of the main characters, who join Han Solo and the resistance on a mission and of course to fight the Dark Side from destroying everything they know.  Kylo Ren is a dark warrior and commands the missions of the First Order. And one of his epic battles at the end will leave you shocked.

There is the perfect amount of humor without the addition of a goofy character like Jar Jar Binks.  I was personally happy to see that Jar Jar was not in this movie.  While all the movies in this series have been good, The Force Awakens feels more like IV, V, VI.  J.J. Abrams did an amazing job keeping the movie in line with what George Lucus did with others.  He really did a fantastic job keeping the spirit of the movies in tact.

Besides the amazing work of J.J. Abrams, John Williams was back to compose the score for the movie and it was just as epic and brilliant as it was for the other movies.

I want to tell you so much more…it’s hard to write a review when I’ve been sworn to secrecy.  However, I will tell you that you and your kids are gonna love it.  If you kids have seen the other Star Wars movies (or dare I say any of the Avenger movies) then this one will be okay.  There are some intense battles and fight scenes, but there wasn’t any blood and gore and the adult language was minimal.

But everyone I talk asks one simple question, “Is it worth all the hype?”  Yes!  Yes, it is!  It was amazing.  One of the best movies I’ve seen in probably 10 years.  The special effects for great, the acting was great, seeing Han and Leila together was awesome….should I mention I even teared up once.  If you are a Star Wars fan, on any level, then you will love the movie.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens nationwide Friday (12/18).
