Earlier this week, I was able to take my 6 year old son to a media preview of the The Good Dinosaur. Make sure to keep reading my The Good Dinosaur Movie Review to find out why I don’t think it’s appropriate for really young children.
Official Synopsis:
“The Good Dinosaur” asks the question: What if the asteroid that forever changed life on Earth missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct? Pixar Animation Studios takes you on an epic journey into the world of dinosaurs where an Apatosaurus named Arlo (voice of Raymond Ochoa) makes an unlikely human friend. While traveling through a harsh and mysterious landscape, Arlo learns the power of confronting his fears and discovers what he is truly capable of.
My son and I both enjoyed the movie. I knew he would like it, but I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the movie. There were several intense and scary scenes in the movie, a couple were probably about 30 and 45 minutes into the movie. Then Arlo has flashbacks of the event once or twice. My 6 yo wasn’t bothered by this, but it could be upsetting to younger movie goers.
What I found amusing was that the dinosaurs spoke English and the the little boy only grunted and named Spot. It was a fun change from how animals and humans interact in real life and different from how they interact in other movies.
The Good Dinosaur opens nationwide today (11/25).
