Sound of Music: Perfect for the Whole Family

The Sound of Music is a must see for the whole family…but you’ll never guess who stole the show.

ASU Gammage Broadway Season 2016-2017 Info

I had the privilege of seeing The Sound of Music tonight, opening night at Gammage.  It was everything I hoped it would be and more.  All of the songs you want to hear, plus some new ones.

The children were all amazing singers and little Gretl was as darling as ever.  Maria (KERSTIN ANDERSON) and Captain von Trapp (BEN DAVIS) were amazing, but you’ll never guess who stole the show.  And I’m not the only one who thought this based on the cheers and applause at the end.

MELODY BETTS who play The Mother Abbess gave everyone around me goosebumps and even a brought a few to tears, myself included.  Her voice is absolutely amazing….she was brilliant!

The show is suitable for all ages, but know the first part of the show is almost two hours, then a short intermission and then the show wraps up in another 45-50 minutes or so.  There are still a few tickets available and it runs through 10/23/16.

“THE HILLS ARE ALIVE! A brand new production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC, directed by three-time Tony Award® winner Jack O’Brien, is coming to ASU Gammage. The beloved musical story of Maria and the von Trapp Family will once again thrill audiences with its Tony®, Grammy® and Academy Award® winning Best Score, including “My Favorite Things,” “Edelweiss” and the title song.

THE SOUND OF MUSIC enjoyed extraordinary success as a live television production when “The Sound of Music Live!” aired on NBC in December, 2013 and was seen by over 44 million people. 2015 marked the 50th anniversary of the film version, which continues to be the most successful movie musical in history.”
